BUKTI NEGARA
Bukti Negara (a.k.a. "Pukulan Pentjak Silat Bukti Negara") was developed by Paul de Thouars who was a Dutch immigrant to the United States after the Dutch got expulsion of the Dutch from Indonesia. He was a master of the Sera system. He developed Butki Negara after meditating and praying in 1985. He designed as self-defense for the elderly, weak, or others who couldn't fully practice the traditional system. Another reason he developed it was to give something back to the county, which accepted him and his family. Bukti Negara can be read to ways 'Witness to a Continent' or 'Tip of the Iceberg.' The latter would mean a part of Sera, the mother system. It only has 8 djurus (sets of fundamental upper body movements) compared to 18 in the original system. The footwork is simplified and things such as weapon skills and spiritual development are absent.
Bukti Negara is based on close quarters combat. The key techniques are strikes with the knees, elbows, and head with some short punches and kicks. Sweeps, throws and takedowns are also apart of common attacks. They use some joint locks but it is more common to just break the joint than to manipulate your opponent. Speed and muscles are not a key element and are not stressed at all but on the other hand, timing is everything. A key element is that once contact is made the eyes are no longer needed. Sensitivity is used to keep track of your opponent so your eyes can watch for other would be attackers and allows one to fight multiple assailants without confusion. Blocking and parrying are taught but not stressed as much as some other arts because they believe that being offensive is better than defensive. Attacking along the appropriate angle is quicker and more efficient and is defense on its own. Sometimes your best defense is a good offense.
