KOKONDO KARATE

Kokondo Karate is an American (though most say it is a Japanese style) style of Karate founded by Paul Arel around 1970. It is an eclectic art made from techniques from Japan, China, Okinawa, Burma, and the Philippines. It prides it self on using authentic-classic-practical techniques. The main influences are Isshin-Ryu Karate, Sankata Karate, and Kyokushin Karate. Kokondo is an art and not a sport like many styles of Karate, so you won't be hindered by rules and regulations.

It is a complete art using strikes to grappling to weapons. It emphasizes powerful body dynamics through Shorin-Ji (points and circles), Jushin (centerline theory), and Kuzushi (unbalancing). It has strong linear dynamics with circular blocks and strikes. Jushin is rarely used in Karate based systems and more found in jiu-jitsu styles. In class, there is a big emphasis on Kihon (basics), Kata (forms), and Bunkai (self-defense). There are over 70 katas in all. Kokondo is practiced in medium to close range, rear or side, multiple attackers, weapons, as well as defense against weapons. Some weapons include sai, tonfa, staff, spear, and long stick.

I have no experience in this art, but by the sounds of it, it would be one of the few Karate styles I would recommend.
