KOO SELF DEFENSE

Koo Self Defense is an art created by Roger Koo in Cartersville, Georgia in 1992. It is a total cardiovascular workout workout program, self-defense, street fighting and devastating knockout power. No blocking is done because they feel it is impossible (THAT IS B.S. by my standards because I have seen it done on the street and in the NHB, so I would say this art sucks because of such).

Koo Self Defense is supposedly the opposite of all arts ever made. Master Koo studied Shotokan, Wado-Ryu, Shokukai, and Tae Kwon-Do, but discovered, at the age of 15, that all the training he had that he had learned no practical techniques. He found an art called Choi Kwang Do, but found out that it was limited. It, like most styles, emphasize one look for all students and it duplicated movements of the founder, which (according to Roger Koo) limited personal achievement. The drills are unique because they are natural movements and not mechanical. Each class is broken into 3 segments 1) aerobics (which could include 90% kicks, 3,000 + punches, jump rope, pushups, and crunches) 2) Flexibility (12 minutes of Yoga) 3) Power drills (20-30 minutes of hitting mitts/shields with maximum power).
